Principal Software Systems Engineer, Remote Robotics

 

Position Summary

The Principal Software Systems Engineer position will lead the development of next generation product and capabilities focused on remote robotics. The candidate should provide technical, project and team leadership using a hands-on approach. The candidate should have demonstrated experience in working with complex system and cross-functional integration. Ideal candidates have designed and implemented remote real-time control software for a medical robotics technology platform, communication interfaces, and imaging. This is a collaborative opportunity in which the individual will work with other engineering disciplines, product management, and clinicians.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Lead the development of a next-generation product
  • Plan and lead software systems engineering projects, including leading requirements capture by working with engineering team members, external development resources and Product Marketing.
  • Conceive and develop novel software technologies to advance business goals.
  • Responsible for solving advanced technical problems
  • Identify, establish working relationships with, and leverage best-in-class product and technology development partners

Qualifications:

  • Master’s Degree Robotics, Computer Science, Electrical or other related technical area required; PhD preferred
  • 10 years of experience architecting robotics and capital equipment software (7 years for PhD) required
  • Strong knowledge of software architecture and interface design, including software as a part of HW/SW systems preferred
  • Experience in partitioning and decomposing complex problems into solutions preferred
  • Strong skills in Object-Oriented Design and Analysis, preferably with the use of UML preferred
  • Experience with RTOS and multi-core software deployment preferred
  • Experience writing requirements documents and design specifications preferred
  • Experience developing medical devices within FDA, ISO, and IEC requirements and guidelines including risk analysis and quality assurance preferred
  • Proven experience in leading teams of engineers in complex projects with both internal and external resources preferred
  • Strong communication and leadership skills preferred
  • Ability to travel up to 20% required
